Welcome
Hello, I’m Peter Mitchell, a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) who has been practicing in the Canadian sales tax and customs and trade areas since 1988. I have been involved with the federal goods and services tax (GST) since its inception in 1991.
My main focus now is helping foreign corporations who are beginning to export goods and services to Canada handle their customs, GST and provincial sales tax responsibilities. I also help Canadian residents deal with the customs and sales tax issues involved in large cross-border transactions that are outside the normal course of their business.
A secondary, but still important, part of my practice is providing sales tax and customs assistance to accountants and lawyers who have a general or income tax practice. Most of these projects involve real property transactions which can be handled in a few hours.
This site consists mainly of a series of articles on GST and customs and trade matters designed to provide basic knowledge in a format that is easy to read and understand. Feel free to browse and contact me if you have questions. The site also has brief descriptions of my professional background and the specific services I provide.
