Welcome. I’m Peter Mitchell, a Canadian CPA who has practiced exclusively in the sales tax and customs and trade fields since 1988.
I retired in 2019 but missed contact with clients and the satisfaction of helping them solve complex tax problems.
Since returning to practice in 2021, I have worked mainly in GST/HST, the Canadian value added tax, and origin and related customs issues involved in Canada’s trade with the United States.
My tax career has included eighteen years with Felesky Flynn LLP, a boutique tax law firm, seven years with Ernst & Young, a major international accounting firm, and ten years as a sole practitioner. I have worked with the GST/HST since its inception in 1991.
Much of my work comes by referral from accounting and law firms who have a general or income tax practice but do not do high level GST/HST or customs and trade work. The remainder comes directly from corporations and individuals who find me through articles published on this website and LinkedIn. I try to write the articles in plain English that is understandable to a businessperson.
