About
Peter L. Mitchell Professional Corporation is owned and operated by Peter Mitchell, a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). He has practiced commodity (transaction) taxes, including GST (the Canadian VAT) and customs and trade, for 35 years. Peter has always had a passion for consulting. He enjoys daily contact with clients and the satisfaction of helping solve their problems, or at least putting them in a better position than they were before he became involved.
Peter has published papers and spoken at tax conferences his entire career – for Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation and other organizations. In 2005 he was granted a Distinguished Service Award for professionalism by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. In 2014 Peter received the Normand Guerin Award for the best paper at the annual Commodity Tax Symposium run by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. The paper discussed the major sales tax and customs issues faced by the oil and gas industry.
Peter and his wife divide their time between Calgary and Canmore, a small town in the Canadian Rockies near Banff and Lake Louise. Peter is an active hiker and cross-country skier, as happy to share his knowledge of the trails in Banff, Yoho, Kootenay and Kananaskis Parks as he is to share his customs and trade experience. Peter and Karen have two adult daughters and four grandchildren aged 16, 13, 11 and 10. They now now leave him in the dust on the trail.
